The Cleveland Guardians certainly enjoyed Andres Gimenez’s breakout season in 2022.
He finished with a .837 OPS, 17 home runs, and 20 stolen bases.
His 142 wRC+ was phenomenal.
In 2023, however, he had a step back in his development and performance.
Despite a strong finish, his wRC+ slipped to 97 and his OPS to .712.
He still hit 15 homers and stole 30 bases, though, plus his excellent defense at second base that earned him a Gold and a Platinum Glove.
All things considered, the 25-year-old might have regressed a bit, but he remains a big part of the Guardians’ future.
In fact, he has the work ethic of a big star.
He is already working out with 2024 in mind, and used the morning of Thanksgiving to do so, via Guardians Prospective.

Gimenez is probably not as good as his 2022 campaign, but he is also better than what he showed in 2023.
He is a big part of the present and future of the organization.
This year, the Guards signed Gimenez to a seven-year, $106.5 million contract, betting important resources on his ability to remain a star for at least a few more years.
He has the tools, the mindset, and the talent to do that, and the fact he is working out this early in the offseason tells you everything you need to know.
If Gimenez can bounce back, at least, to the 110-120 wRC+ range and the team can bring in at least a couple of consistent sources of power, the Guardians have a very solid chance of returning to postseason play in 2024.
