The MLB season is a long grind.
It’s never about how you start the season; it’s all about how you close it out.
That’s why no team should wave the white flag after a tough month, especially if it’s before the All-Star break.
Fortunately, the Cleveland Guardians know that lesson pretty well, and it looks like their resiliency is about to pay off.
The Detroit Tigers have fallen from grace, all while the Guardians are playing their best baseball of the season.
That’s why MLB analyst Bruce Drennan likes their chances of stealing the AL Central pennant.
In the latest edition of his show, Drennan gushed about the Guardians and the Tigers’ downfall:
“[The Tigers have] come down to Earth. I don’t think it’s feasible that we can catch them. That comes down to the math as I’ve preached for decades. You have to look at what the Guardians’ winning percentage would have to be with Detroit nearly playing .500 ball,” Drennan said.

Numbers don’t lie, and all teams and players often regress to the mean, either sooner or later.
The Tigers were one of the hottest teams in all of baseball in the first half of the campaign, but there were several indicators that made it seem like their success wasn’t sustainable for the long run.
The Guardians, on the other hand, went ice cold in June and had one of the worst offenses in the game, but it seemed like a matter of time before they bounced back.
Fast forward to today, and the Guardians are riding a league-best 21-7 record since July 7, and they’re now sitting on a five-game winning streak.
This is when you want to peak, and with the gap between them and the Tigers sitting at just five games now, the Guardians have a legitimate chance to steal the divisional pennant.
