The Cleveland Guardians needed a bit of a punch.
They were never in the mix to trade for a bat, so they would always have to find a reinforcement in-house.
That’s exactly what they did when they promoted C.J. Kayfus, who had been crushing it at Triple-A Columbus.
And now, just a week after getting his first taste of MLB action, the star youngster has finally logged his first career home run (via Tim Stebbins).

Kayfus helped his team secure a 3-1 win over the Chicago White Sox on Saturday with a solo homer in the sixth inning.
It gave them an insurance run and helped them secure their season-high-tying fifth win in a row.
He’s starting to catch fire, as he went 2-for-4 with two doubles and two strikeouts on Friday, and he followed that effort with a 1-for-3 performance with a walk, a solo homer, and two runs scored on Saturday.
That homer was Kayfus’ fourth extra-base hit since he made his MLB debut on August 2.
So far, he’s gone 7-for-23 (.304) with five RBI and five runs scored in just seven games.
While he’s primarily considered a first baseman, he can also play in both corners of the outfield, and he’s giving this team a much-needed offensive punch.
The Guardians have gone 21-7 since July 7, which is good for the best record in all of baseball.
They’re also now six full games above .500 and are trailing the Detroit Tigers by just five games, which is the closest they’ve been since late May.
