The Cleveland Guardians have always had a knack for finding and developing young players.
That continues to be the case, and they have one of the most stacked farm systems in all of baseball.
That’s why it’s not much of a surprise to see them near the top of Joel Reuter’s rankings for the best farm systems in the league right now.
In his latest edition, Reuter had them at No. 8, trailing only the Seattle Mariners, Los Angeles Dodgers, Minnesota Twins, Pittsburgh Pirates, Cincinnati Reds, Detroit Tigers, and Tampa Bay Rays, respectively.
They’re ahead of the likes of the Athletics and the Milwaukee Brewers among the teams in the top 10.
The Guardians have plenty of talent in their ranks, headlined by 2B Travis Bazzana and OF Chase DeLauter.
INF Angel Genao, the recently called-up 1B/OF C.J. Kayfus, and OF Jaison Chourio round up the top five.
The Guardians added another elite prospect in the Shane Bieber trade by acquiring RHP Khal Stephen, who’s now their seventh-best young player.
Small-market teams always have a tough time keeping up with powerhouses.
They know they can’t spend as much money as other teams, and they might not stand a chance against their bright lights and appeal, either.
As such, teams like the Guardians need to strike gold when it comes to scouting and developing their players.
It will be a while before we see some of them do their thing and contribute in the majors, but even if not all of them turn out to be stars, this farm system looks absolutely stacked right now.
