The Cleveland Guardians need their best players to get back on track.
That’s why having Steven Kwan play at such a high level after the All-Star break has led to plenty of success.
Kwan is playing his best baseball of the season, and he just logged the longest home run of his career.
As pointed out by Paul Hoynes of Cleveland.com, the All-Star outfielder is piling up milestones right now:
“Kwan extended the lead again with a 431-foot, two-run homer in the fourth off Jonathan Bowlan, Kansas City’s 27th man for Saturday’s doubleheader. The homer was the longest of Kwan’s career and his third in the last three games. It must mean his strained right wrist is starting to feel better,” Hoynes wrote.
The Guardians entered the month of July after enduring one of the worst months in franchise history, and they looked like a team that was ready to throw in the towel and just focus on next season.
That’s no longer the case.
They’ve been one of the hottest teams in all of baseball for weeks now, and plenty of that has to do with Kwan’s superlative play.
Some believed that Kwan could be on the trade block, since the Guardians haven’t been able to sign him to a contract extension.
Nevertheless, he’s still under club control for years, so there’s no reason to think the Guardians will have any sort of incentive to part ways with him right now.
If anything, they need to hold onto him, find him more help, and pick up contract talks again in the offseason.
Kwan is emerging and establishing himself as one of the biggest names in all of baseball.
He’s a perennial Gold Glove candidate, and if he starts raking the ball at this rate, the rest of the league will be in trouble.
