The Cleveland Guardians had high hopes for Chase DeLauter entering this season.
Unfortunately, injuries got the best of him again.
Now, the star outfielder is dealing with a sore wrist, and he’s talking to hand specialists to determine the extent of the ailment and the best way to fix it.
With that in mind, manager Stephen Vogt sent him well wishes and addressed the never-ending injury woes:
“I feel for him, obviously,” Guardians manager Stephen Vogt said. “It’s been a couple years now with just injuries, but we all continue to believe Chase is going to be an impact player for us someday. But obviously, that’s going to be put on pause for a little bit.”
We’ve seen this story happen way too many times in the past.
Talent and hard work can only take you so far.
You have to be healthy if you want to make it in professional sports.
The Guardians reportedly wanted to ramp DeLauter up this season to a point where he could play four or five times a week before giving him the nod and calling him up to join the team in the majors.
That’s not going to be the case this season.
He’s dealt with so many injuries in his young career that it’s hard to believe the Guardians will do anything to risk further injury by calling him up after he heals from his wrist injury.
Of course, this isn’t his fault, and he shouldn’t be singled out or blamed for this.
If anything, he’s worked tirelessly for his opportunity, and he’s posted remarkable numbers in the minors.
But unless the team gets to the bottom of his injury woes and he somehow manages a way to stay healthy, his once-promising career might only be a major ‘what if.’
