The Cleveland Guardians won again on Wednesday against the Baltimore Orioles.
They are going for the sweep on Thursday, and you can tell confidence is at its highest point of the season.
The Guardians are streaking, having won 11 of their last 13 games, and have taken full advantage of an ‘easy’ part of the schedule (in theory, of course).
Their excellent form has coincided with their biggest divisional foe, the Detroit Tigers, sliding and dropping games left and right.
The Tigers have lost eight of their last nine contests.
As a result, Cleveland has significantly closed the gap in the AL Central.
“Game over. Guardians outlast the Orioles 3-2 at Progressive Field. It’s Cleveland’s 11th win over their last 13 games. Guards improve to 51-50 on the season and now sit only 8 games behind first-place Detroit. Pretty wild,” Cleveland sports anchor Nick Camino posted on X.

You might see this without context and think that an eight-game cushion is still significant, and it is.
However, consider that on July 8, the Guardians were 15.5 games behind the Tigers.
In just 16 days, the Guardians trimmed that difference from 15.5 to eight, which, as Camino notes, is pretty remarkable.
It demonstrates what a healthy and motivated team can accomplish in just a few days.
Just a couple of weeks ago, everybody said the division was all but wrapped up in Detroit’s favor.
Right now, with more than two months left to play and the trade deadline looming as a chance to get some much-needed offensive reinforcements, no one knows for sure.
The Guardians are alive, and they are playing to convince the front office to buy, not to sell.
