Chase DeLauter is what scouts and evaluators call an impact prospect.
The young Cleveland Guardians outfielder has the bat speed, bat-to-ball skills, plate discipline, and power to be a fixture in the lineup for the next decade.
Unfortunately, he is a big injury risk.
In every pro season, DeLauter has missed considerable time due to injuries.
He opened the 2025 minor league season on the shelf after undergoing sports hernia surgery in March.
After recovering and dominating Triple-A in the summer, the injury bug bit him again.
This time, he will be sidelined with a broken hamate bone, according to Zack Meisel.
“Guardians prospect Chase DeLauter underwent surgery today for a fractured hamate bone in his right hand/wrist. He’s expected to miss 6-8 weeks,” the Guardians insider wrote on X.

The injury has the potential to derail DeLauter’s season.
He had been so good for Columbus that the entire fanbase was clamoring for his call-up.
Unfortunately, his MLB dreams will likely have to wait until next year.
The most likely scenario involves DeLauter, who is hitting .278/.383/.476 with five home runs and a 130 wRC+ in 34 Triple-A contests, making it back to the minors in a few weeks, but he probably won’t be ready to play in the majors.
It’s too bad, because the Guardians could have certainly used his potent left-handed bat in right field.
