The Cleveland Guardians are in a bit of a tough spot.
On the one hand, they haven’t looked sharp against the better teams in the American League.
On the other hand, they’re currently playing their best baseball of the season.
With that in mind, analyst Danny Cunningham shared an interesting prediction about Cleveland’s approach to the trade deadline.
“I expect them to be moderate sellers at the trade deadline. I don’t expect there to be some fire sale. There should not be some fire sale. I don’t think that there’s going to be some big buy at the trade deadline. They have done a good job taking care of business, which you deserve credit for. It’s easy to kick games against bad teams, but they’ve also not proven that they should be taken seriously, because when the good teams come to town, or on the road, they’ve not looked anything that resembles a contender,” Cunningham said, via 92.3 The Fan.

The Guardians likely would consider a big-time offer, but other than that, there’s no need to part with any of their best players.
Unless they make an unexpected attempt to add a proven hitter, it’s highly unlikely that anyone they get in a trade will significantly help their cause.
They’re not going to get much for a player like Carlos Santana, but if they did, it may help over the rest of the season.
The good part about that “moderate sellers” label is that it means they likely won’t consider trading Steven Kwan or Emmanuel Clase.
The Guardians might not be a true World Series contender, but they’re not that far away either, so blowing up the roster doesn’t make sense.
