The Cleveland Guardians need Steven Kwan back on the field.
Stephen Vogt’s leadoff hitter has missed the first two games after the All-Star break because of a wrist injury.
However, when asked about that, he dismissed any concerns:
“It feels good,” said Kwan, who missed his second straight game on Saturday night against the A’s. “I got the shot and have been recovering well. I’m cautiously optimistic.”
Kwan got an injection on Wednesday to reduce the inflammation and pain.
He sustained the injury before the All-Star Game, which is why the fans and some analysts have questioned the decision to let him play through it.
Even so, he didn’t look bothered by it at all.
Kwan reportedly suffered the injury on a stolen base attempt on May 27 against the Los Angeles Dodgers, but it didn’t seem to be serious at the time.
He’s been tangled up in some trade rumors as the trade deadline closes in.
The Guardians reportedly tried to get him to sign a contract extension, but since there haven’t been any updates about that situation, some believe they’re gearing up to part ways with him.
Other reports show that the team has made him one of their few untouchable players alongside Jose Ramirez, Emmanuel Clase, and Cade Smith.
In the meantime, the Guardians are rolling with the switch-hitting Angel Martinez as their leadoff hitter, with Nolan Jones getting the nod to start in left field.
