The Cleveland Guardians entered this season with big expectations.
Even after trading Josh Naylor, they looked like a team that could make a deep postseason run.
Unfortunately, they haven’t looked like that type of team for most of the season.
They went through a dreadful June, winning only nine games.
But after entering the All-Star break with some momentum, Steven Kwan isn’t ready to throw in the towel on the season.
Talking about the rest of the campaign, the All-Star outfielder talked about believing and getting the job done.
“Momentum is huge with baseball. Obviously, you see it the other way, with the 10 losses (in a row). I think a lot of guys needed this break, mentally and physically. To be able to go into the break on a positive note instead of a negative note, I think it’s gonna be huge. We’ll be eager to come back in the second half, and you never know what happens after that,” Kwan said.
Despite their struggles, the Guardians are in the race for an AL Wild Card.
On top of that, they’re going to face many sub-.500 teams the rest of the season, some of which may have given up by the time they play the Guardians.
Of course, it would be better if Cleveland made moves to acquire more offense before the trade deadline.
But given the way its front office usually operates, that might not be the case.
Some rumors said that other teams are keeping tabs on Kwan.
Then again, he’s on a team-friendly contract and will be under club control through the 2027 season, so the Guardians should have no incentive to trade him unless they get a huge return.
As things stand now, it looks like they might stand pat, but even with this group, they have a chance to get to the postseason again.
