Nick Swisher, born in Columbus, Ohio, went on to have an amazing MLB career.
He made a name for himself in Oakland with the Athletics, played for the Chicago White Sox, won a World Series ring with the New York Yankees in 2009, and returned home to play for the Cleveland Guardians (then Indians) from 2013 to 2015.
He was a bit past his prime by then, but had a very solid 2013 with 22 homers, 74 runs, a 113 wRC+, and 2.0 fWAR.
Injuries limited him to 97 games and a 71 wRC+ in 2014, and he was traded in 2015 at 34 years old after posting a 48 wRC+ in 30 contests.
Speaking at the Carlos Baerga Show, Swisher explained how injuries were mostly to blame for his poor form in 2014 and 2015.
“I just was never the player that I knew I could be for the fans of Cleveland,” he said.

Swisher, who played college baseball for the Ohio State Buckeyes and has deep roots in the state, was surely disappointed with his results in Cleveland, but that’s mostly out of his control.
Sometimes, our own body betrays us, and that was the case with him: injuries just wouldn’t let him perform at the highest level.
At least he was able to enjoy a solid 2013 in Cleveland, not just individually, but collectively: that was the year that the Guardians made it to the postseason for the first time since dropping the American League Championship Series to the Boston Red Sox in 2007.
They lost the Wild Card game, but announced to the world, under Terry Francona, that Cleveland would be one of the best teams of the decade in the junior circuit.
