The Cleveland Guardians rank, before Friday’s games, 25th in MLB in runs scored and also 25th in wRC+, with 90.
Things have been way worse in June: their 76 wRC+ this month is the second-worst in the league.
Hitters just don’t seem to be capable of turning things around, and the situation is starting to threaten their postseason chances.
Former Cleveland Indians player Ben Broussard, who was with the organization from 2002 to 2006, joined Baskin and Phelps on 92.3 The Fan and offered his two cents on what he thinks the Guardians need to do to get back on track.
It was a nice talk in which he discussed many subjects.
“The Guardians need to get creative when it comes to producing offense since it doesn’t seem like things are clicking the way,” Broussard said.

Broussard, who had three straight seasons of at least 15 home runs from 2003 to 2005 with above-average offensive numbers, said that the current Guardians should learn how to reset when it’s appropriate and also be more creative.
He wants to see more aggressiveness on the bases, and hitters “taking pride in not striking out,” among other things.
Basically, he points out that they need to think outside the box to find a recipe that works.
Creativeness can certainly help, but the Guardians also need to take more walks, hit the ball hard more consistently, and, above all things, get their best personnel on the field.
That includes calling up some pieces currently thriving in the minor leagues.
Of course, they also need some help from outside the organization.
The situation is not hopeless, but it’s certainly worrisome.
