The Cleveland Guardians aren’t having the season many fans had hoped for up to this point, as the team is sitting at 38-37 and has one of the most lifeless offenses in baseball.
Cleveland has scored more than four runs just once in 18 games in the month of June, so this organization could use any help it can get on that front, which is why there is some buzz about a recent shortstop prospect that the Guardians were recently named favorites to sign.
Guardians Prospective shared on X that the team is favored to sign switch-hitting shortstop prospect Karel Naranjo out of Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, though he isn’t eligible to sign until International signing day on January 15th, 2026.

From the video shared on X, Naranjo features a smooth stroke from the left side with impressive power to all fields, and it’s easy to see why teams are so interested in him, even though the video is just 14 seconds long.
Naranjo is just 17, so this is a highly impressive swing for someone of his age, and if the team signs him, he’ll surely give fans fond memories of a certain superstar switch-hitting shortstop who the team traded to the New York Mets a few years ago.
Cleveland needs offensive firepower wherever it can find it, so file this one away and let’s hope the team can get a deal done on signing day next year.
