The Cleveland Guardians lost to the Seattle Mariners on Sunday by a score of 6-0 to complete a 3-game sweep, dropping back to .500 on the season following a fourth consecutive series loss.
The team is still in the thick of the American League wild card race, but the offense has been putrid and has posted more than four runs just one time in June, which collectively, has led one analyst to provide a harsh reality about the Guardians’ season.
On Monday’s episode of The Ken Carman Show, Anthony Lima expressed that he isn’t sure if the Guardians are “fine” and wondered if the season is close to being over.
“I don’t know if they’re just fine…doesn’t look like they’re just fine, at all. I can’t ask ‘if’. I want to know ‘when’ I can ask ‘if’.”

There is still a ton of baseball left to play and the Guardians are in the thick of the playoff race, but the path to improvement is looking bleak given how uninspiring this offense has been.
The rotation has been solid, but they consistently struggle to get deep into games, while the bullpen has been a bit shakier than last season, likely due to being overworked.
The offense features a number of hitters batting under .200 and a severe lack of power, which is exactly what the team needed to address in the offseason, but the front office and ownership went bargain bin shopping once again instead of ponying up a bit of cash for an impact bat such as Pete Alonso, Alex Bregman, or Anthony Santander.
It’s frustrating watching the team struggle with exactly the same issues it had last season when the Guardians were a few games shy of reaching the World Series, despite their obvious flaws.
The season isn’t over, but after this recent stretch, it could be circling the drain quickly if things don’t turn around over the next couple of weeks.
