The Cleveland Guardians have lost four series in a row as they look to avoid a sweep at the hands of the Seattle Mariners on Sunday, which would drop the team to .500 at 35-35.
A big reason for the team’s swoon lately has been the lack of thump in the lineup, as the offense has scored more than four runs in a game just one time in the month of June.
The lack of offense has many wondering if any prospects are going to be summoned to help out, particularly 23-year-old 1B/OF C.J. Kayfus, who continues to produce in Triple-A Columbus after reaching base three times on Saturday night with a double, triple, and a walk.
Cleveland #Guardians 23yr old (1B/OF) prospect C.J. Kayfus reached base 3x tonight (2-3 R 2B 3B RBI BB) including a pair of extra base hits at Buffalo.
Kayfus is currently hitting .332 on the season with 29 XBH and a 1.004 OPS over 56 games.

Kayfus has .332/.417/.587 batting splits so far this season with 13 doubles, eight triples, and eight home runs through 56 games.
He began the season in Double-A, but was quickly promoted after hitting .364 over his first 18 games, and he has continued to rake with Columbus since the promotion, posting a .974 OPS in 38 games in Triple-A.
Cleveland’s top eight prospects on MLB.com’s top prospect rankings are all position players, which could indicate why the team didn’t make a big move for an impact bat this past offseason.
Cleveland has a number of players batting under .200, so if things don’t turn around quickly, it’s going to get harder and harder to justify leaving guys like Kayfus in the minors much longer.
You never want to overreact and stunt a prospect’s development, but the season is starting to slip away a bit, so it could be time to make some big decisions soon.
