Nine days ago, Cleveland Guardians fans were left in shambles when the organization announced Shane Bieber was scratched from his scheduled start due to elbow soreness.
For a Tommy John patient so close to returning after more than a year of rehab, the word “soreness” is definitely not encouraging, so everyone assumed the worst right away.
As it turns out, the soreness he was experiencing in the last few days was normal and not structural, as his elbow and its ligaments showed no damage in a recent examination.
As a result, he will resume his throwing program in the next few days.
“Cleveland #Guardians RHP Shane Bieber will resume his throwing program again in the next few days according to manager Stephen Vogt. Bieber was sidelined in what is now described as just general soreness recovering from his TJ surgery,” Guardians Prospective posted on X.

That’s about the best news Guardians fans could have gotten after days of uncertainty and imagining the worst scenarios.
Bieber is now back in play for the second half, and there is a chance he can return before the All-Star break if all goes well.
Cleveland’s chances of making it to the postseason without him were slim, for lack of a better word.
They need their ace, the guy who can throw six or seven dominant innings and give the bullpen a break every five days.
Of course, he still has work to do to reach that level of form, but if anyone on the Guardians can do it, it’s definitely Bieber.
