Cleveland Guardians lefty Tim Herrin posted a 5.53 ERA and a 1.48 WHIP in 23 games last year.
Hunter Gaddis was a mediocre starter with a 4.50 ERA in a swingman role last season.
Cade Smith has only been a member of the 40-man roster since last November, when the Guardians opted to protect him from being taken in the Rule 5 Draft.
All three men have worked hard and turned around their careers, currently starting in the league’s best bullpen.
“Cleveland has had the best bullpen in MLB all year. A key reason? Three newcomers who weren’t even expected to make the Opening Day roster: Cade Smith, Hunter Gaddis & Tim Herrin. Now, they’re three of the league’s top relievers,” Guardians insider Zack Meisel tweeted.

None of them was supposed to make the roster out of camp, and not only did they make it, but they are now among the best and most reliable relievers in baseball today.
Gaddis has been a top setup man all year long and currently boasts a 1.57 ERA in 63 frames.
He has been nearly as good as Emmanuel Clase, and that’s saying a lot.
Throwing in shorter spurts has unlocked fastball velocity, and he has shown both top command and demeanor.
Smith is a legitimate Rookie of the Year candidate and has a 2.18 ERA and 88 punchouts in 66 innings.
Herrin has a 2.10 ERA in 55.2 frames and even though he has not looked as sharp as in the early stages of the 2024 campaign, remains an important part of the bullpen.
These three unsung heroes have carried, with Clase, the best bullpen in the major leagues.
They deserve major props.
