The Cleveland Guardians shocked the world and managed to make the playoffs against all odds. A lot of that had to do with Jose Ramirez.
Of course, baseball is a team sport, and it took a collective effort to get to the postseason. Then again, they simply wouldn’t have been even close to that if it weren’t for their superstar third baseman.
Ramirez has been one of the most efficient players in all of baseball for years now. And, as shown by Sean Casey, his consistency is what makes him stand out from the rest of the pack:
“When you talk about an MVP of a team, the Guardians, where would they be without Jose Ramirez? This guy’s one of the most special guys in the game. What fascinates me is the way this guy posts every single day. You talk about hitting from one side of the plate—this guy does it from both sides of the plate. He’s a complete hitter. He’s a line-to-line guy. He can get you in all facets of the game. His splits are incredible. He’s almost exactly the same hitter left-handed as he is right-handed, which is such a hard thing to do. This guy can flat-out change the game. He could steal bags and get in scoring position. One of the best in the business,” Casey said.

It seems like you always know what you’re going to get from Ramirez. Even in the few instances in which he’s not contributing with his bat, he still finds a way to get on base and get himself in scoring position, and he’s also an elite defensive player.
Ramirez is often overlooked. He’s not as vocal as other stars, and he doesn’t play in a big market, either. Nevertheless, he’s still finished in the top three of MVP voting multiple times in his career, which speaks volumes about the level of respect his peers have for him.
Once it’s all said and done, Ramirez might go down as the single greatest player in franchise history. He’s already one of the best players of his generation, and it doesn’t seem like he’s going to slow down any time soon. He’s aging like fine wine.
