José Ramírez capped off another exceptional season that reinforced his standing among the Cleveland Guardians’ greatest players. After leading the team through a remarkable playoff run, he earned his sixth Silver Slugger Award and finished as a Gold Glove finalist at third base.
On Thursday, Ramírez placed third in the American League MVP voting, adding another achievement to a resume that continues to grow with each passing year.
MLB Network’s Gregg Caserta recently weighed in on how Ramírez’s legacy will be remembered long after his playing career concludes in Cleveland.
“Jose Ramirez has been the guy. 13 years in Cleveland. It’s a smaller market. He’s been their guy. He’s taken less money to be there. He is going to have his number retired in Cleveland one day,” Caserta said on MLB Tonight.

Ramírez has anchored the Guardians since making his debut in 2013. Last season, he posted a .283 batting average while hitting 30 home runs and driving in 85 runs. His career-best 44 stolen bases highlighted his continued evolution as one of the game’s most complete players.
The numbers supporting his Hall of Fame candidacy have become increasingly difficult to ignore. Ramírez owns six Silver Slugger Awards and sits just shy of 1,000 career RBIs.
He has accumulated 398 doubles and 285 home runs while maintaining production across multiple phases of offensive performance.
His consistency in MVP voting provides another measure of sustained excellence. Ramírez has finished in the top 10 of MVP balloting eight times, including four top-three placements.
His closest finish came in 2020 when he finished second behind José Abreu. He is now tied with Hall of Famers George Brett and Brooks Robinson for the second-most top-three MVP finishes by a third baseman in baseball history.
Ramírez has remained committed to Cleveland despite opportunities elsewhere, accepting team-friendly contracts to stay with the organization that developed him into one of the premier players in the sport.
