The Cleveland Guardians, unfortunately, have several struggling hitters in their lineup at the moment.
Jhonkensy Noel ranks among the worst offensive performers in baseball this year per wRC+, Gabriel Arias is not the same batter who was tearing the cover off the ball earlier in the season, Bo Naylor is not producing, and so on.
Thankfully, the Guards have a couple of veterans they can rely on: first baseman Carlos Santana, and third baseman Jose Ramirez.
The former boasts a 117 wRC+ at 39 years old, comfortably above-average performance against all odds.
The latter, however, is doing the heavy lifting in the Guardians lineup, as he usually does.
Ramirez, with a walk in the first inning of Saturday’s game against the Houston Astros, managed to extend his on-base streak to 33 games.
He had never reached those heights before in his illustrious career.
“33-game on-base streak for José Ramírez is a new career high. Longest since Jason Kipnis went 36 games from May 26-July 5, 2013,” Guardians insider Tim Stebbins posted on X.

The next goal for J-Ram is tying that 36-game streak of games getting on base, achieved by Kipnis in the year Ramirez made his MLB debut: 2013.
At 32 years old, Ramirez keeps doing amazing things at the plate.
He has been in the middle of an impressive run, one that took his overall line to a fantastic .329/.382/.544 and his wRC+ to 158 before taking the field on Saturday.
That 158 wRC+ would be his highest mark since the 2020 campaign, and the best of his career if we only count full seasons.
He also has 11 home runs and 17 stolen bases.
Once again, Ramirez is carrying the Guardians on his back.
