The Cleveland Guardians have a very good team.
Contrary to what big-market media might think, they have more than enough talent to go far in the playoffs.
Then again, as good a team as they are, and as much as they reached the ALCS last season, they might not be a World Series contender.
With that in mind, MLB analyst Nick Pedone had an interesting proposition.
Talking on his “The BIG Factor” show, the renowned analyst urged the team to make the most of Jose Ramirez while he’s still there.
He wants the team to swing for the fences and try to build a World Series-caliber roster around their superstar infielder, even if that means giving up on some of their star prospects:
“This Jose Ramirez guy is going to have a statue outside of the ballpark that will live on in Cleveland history forever. Let’s maybe try to get rid of some of these guys, flip some of these young guys, who are talented and who are going to turn into good MLB players for this organization, and try to win a World Series here with Jose Ramirez on the roster,” Pedone said.
Jose Ramirez isn't getting any younger, and he needs protection. #GuardsBall

That makes sense to a degree.
The Guardians have some superstar prospects like Travis Bazzana, Chase DeLauter, and even C.J. Kayfus, and they should only consider moving on from any of them in return for a massive haul.
Unless they get an absolute king’s ransom for their services, they shouldn’t even entertain the thought of any transaction involving them.
Of course, Ramirez deserves a big effort from the team, and he’s still at a level in which he could put a team on his shoulders and lead them all the way to a championship.
Then again, small-market teams like the Guardians don’t have the luxury of giving up on their farm system, as they usually struggle to lure in big names in free agency.
