You need to gamble if you want to find success in Major League Baseball.
Sometimes, that means giving up on a proven player to get a potential star in return.
That’s what the Cleveland Guardians did with the Kyle Manzardo trade.
And while some were hesitant at first, it seems like it’s worked like a charm so far.
Notably, that’s why Joel Reuter of Bleacher Report believes the Milwaukee Brewers would love to have a redo with the trade they made with the Guardians and Tampa Bay Rays.
Given the way 1B Kyle Manzardo has fared and how poorly RHP Aaron Civale has done for them, they must be regretting making the move, says Reuter:
Trade Terms:
To CLE: 1B Kyle Manzardo
To MIL: RHP Aaron Civale“Manzardo has a 109 OPS+ with 10 home runs in 49 games this season hitting in the middle of the Guardians lineup, and with club control through 2030, he represents a low-cost run producer for an organization on a budget,” Reuter wrote. “Civale logged a 5.17 ERA over 27 starts with the Rays in 2023 and 2024 before he was traded again last summer, with the Brewers acquiring him in exchange for low-level shortstop Gregory Barrios.”
Manzarado has made the most of every chance he’s gotten.
He recently played three consecutive games for the first time in his MLB career, since Santana was out with a hamstring injury.
Despite hitting just .210, he’s leading the team with 10 home runs and 28 RBIs.
He also has a .741 OPS, and while his offense has been a welcome and much-needed sight for this team, his defense has also turned plenty of heads.
Civale, on the other hand, has gotten hit hard this season, boasting a 0-1 record with a 6.00 ERA and a 1.25 WHIP and just nine strikeouts across three starts.
