The Cleveland Guardians are not really known for their offensive firepower.
It’s a respectable unit, but it can certainly improve in certain areas and positions.
Generally speaking, the Guardians are in no position to reject power, especially if it comes from within the organization.
That is precisely why young slugger C.J. Kayfus is shaping up to see some MLB time this year.
He is definitely making a huge impression in the high minors, first in Double-A Akron and now in Triple-A Columbus.
He had another big game on Wednesday, with more of the good stuff that Guardians fans would love to see in the majors: doubles, homers, and walks.
“Cleveland #Guardians 23yr old (1B/OF) C.J. Kayfus reached base 3x today (2-4 R 2B HR 2RBI BB) for Columbus collecting a pair of XBH including his 5th HR of the season. Kayfus is now hitting .364 on the year with a 1.076 OPS over 35 games between Akron and Columbus,” Guardians Prospective wrote on X.

Yes, you read that stat line correctly.
No, your eyes are not deceiving you: Kayfus boasts a 1.076 OPS over 35 games in the high minors this year.
With top prospect pedigree and solid tools to validate his stat line, Kayfus could be contributing in Cleveland soon.
He could play the outfield corners or first base, and while he is no defensive star, he is more than just a designated hitter.
In those 35 games in the minors, Kayfus has seven doubles, six triples, and five long balls, not to mention three steals and 20 walks.
He can do a little bit of everything at the plate, and perhaps he can provide the spark that the Guardians’ lineup needs at the moment.
