The Cleveland Guardians had some tough injury news to announce on Tuesday.
Travis Bazzana, the No. 1 pick in the 2024 MLB Draft, will miss about two months, if not more, with an internal oblique strain suffered last week in a game with the Akron RubberDucks.
The second baseman was having an amazing season in Double-A and could have been called up to Triple-A Columbus in the upcoming weeks.
Those plans have now gone out the window.
MLB analyst and former Guardians pitcher Jensen Lewis noted Cleveland’s bad luck with top prospects on the injury front this year.
“Well.. no legit reinforcements for #GuardsBall on the horizon from a top prospect standpoint. First DeLauter. Then Brito. Now Bazzana. Oof,” Lewis posted on X.

Bazzana is not the only top prospect on the Guards set to miss a significant period.
Outfielder Chase DeLauter needed surgery to repair a sports hernia back in March and is just starting to work his way back in the Arizona Complex League.
We might see him in Double-A or Triple-A soon, but thinking about a call-up to the majors is premature considering he hasn’t gotten at-bats at a competitive level this year.
Then we have Brito, another organizational top-ten prospect, who is expected to miss multiple weeks after undergoing surgery to repair a torn ligament on his thumb in late April.
Back then, he was given an 8-12 week timetable, which means he still has 4-8 weeks to go before even thinking about a return to Triple-A.
There might be a moment in time, probably late in the summer, in which all three are healthy enough to play.
In all cases, their respective injuries heavily affect plans to get them to the majors at some point in 2025, though.
