The Cleveland Guardians were supposed to play their series opener against the Washington Nationals in D.C. on Monday.
Those plans went out the window because of the weather.
The game had to be postponed due to rain, so fans will have to wait until Tuesday to see some Guardians baseball.
There will be plenty of baseball to see, though, as the two teams will now play a doubleheader.
The first game will be starting at 3:35pm ET and the second one will begin approximately 30 minutes after the afternoon matchup ends.
Guards insider Tim Stebbins announced the two starters scheduled to take the ball for Cleveland.
“Guardians probables for Tuesday’s doubleheader. Game 1: Luis Ortiz. Game 2: Ben Lively,” he posted on X.
Guardians probables for Tuesday's doubleheader
Game 1: Luis Ortiz
Game 2: Ben Lively— Tim Stebbins (@tim_stebbins) May 5, 2025
Ortiz was going to toe the rubber on Monday, so he is just being pushed back a day.
He has improved considerably after a brutal spring and start of the regular season and now sports a 4.78 ERA.
That number is mediocre at best, but it’s important not to lose sight of the fact that the right-hander has a 2.95 ERA in his last four outings, with plenty of strikeouts.
The Guardians have been patient with Ortiz and are starting to see the results.
Lively is going to get the assignment in Game 2.
He is having a typical Lively season: not flashy, but steady and consistent.
With a 3.72 ERA in 36.1 frames, he has been everything the Guardians hoped for and more when they signed him before the 2024 campaign.
For the Guardians’ rotation to reach its ceiling, these two talented righties need to keep up the good work.
