The Cleveland Guardians are rounding into form.
They have won five of their past six, including walk-off thrillers, come-from-behind victories, and excellent outings from their much-criticized starting rotation.
In a way, much-maligned closer Emmanuel Clase is also starting to turn things around after a rough start.
After allowing three runs on April 20, his ERA ballooned to 7.84.
Right now it’s at 5.87.
In his latest outing, he allowed an unearned run in an otherwise clean inning.
He has conceded just one earned run in his past five outings, covering five innings.
He is getting there, but there is a lot of work to do before we see the 2024 version of Clase.
“Emmanuel Clase routinely missed his spots by 4-6 inches and still doesn’t look back to his old self. With that being said, he has a 1.80 ERA in his last 5 outings,” Anthony Alandt of 92.3 The Fan wrote on X.

Clase has been enjoying a reverse in fortune compared to the start of the season, but the command issues that plagued him are mostly still there.
He has improved some, but probably not enough to declare him fully back.
His stuff is fine, as he is still throwing a triple-digit cutter with late movement.
When he finally stays off the middle of the plate and starts to consistently attack hitters on the inside part of the zone, he will look like last year’s version.
For now, it’s a work in progress. He has gotten a bit better and experienced better luck but still has to work to get to where he wants to be.
