The Cleveland Guardians’ bullpen has suffered its fair share of injuries in the 2025 campaign.
The unit is currently without Trevor Stephan, Franco Aleman, Erik Sabrowski, Sam Hentges, Andrew Walters, Nic Enright, and others.
It looks like they will also be without Paul Sewald, one of their highest profile offseason signings, for a while.
“Paul Sewald exited with right shoulder inflammation,” team insider Tim Stebbins posted on X.

The right-hander fired a pitch on Monday night and was clearly not feeling right after delivering it.
Then, a few moments later, he walked off the mound and exited with a trainer.
He had gotten two outs up until that point.
Late at night, Stebbins confirmed he was dealing with inflammation on his right shoulder.
Sewald is expected to go through extensive testing and imaging so the organization can come up with a more specific diagnosis and a timeline for his return.
Depending on what the scans show and how he feels, Sewald could potentially be looking at a stint on the injured list.
Shoulder injuries are certainly not insignificant, but there is a wide range of outcomes here.
Emmanuel Clase, for example, recently had a bout of shoulder soreness and went back to the mound in a matter of days.
The Guardians can’t do anything but wait in Sewald’s case.
The veteran joined Cleveland’s bullpen in the offseason and had shown flashes of his recent brilliance.
Still, he had been inconsistent to this point, which is reflected in his 6.17 ERA.
He cost the Guardians a couple of games in 2025 but also helped secure some wins.
It’s safe to say he will be out for a few days at the very least.
