The Cleveland Guardians selected infielder Will Wilson in the Triple-A phase of the Rule 5 Draft this offseason.
He was the definition of a lotto ticket as there was absolutely no downside in assigning him to Triple-A to see if he could pull off the improbable: reaching the major leagues and becoming a contributor there.
Wilson was a first-round pick in the 2019 MLB Draft, when the Los Angeles Angels selected him at No. 15.
The Angels then traded him to the San Francisco Giants, and now he’s trying to play his way into the Guardians’ picture at age 26.
Something has clicked with the Cleveland organization, at least in his first 15 games.
“Cleveland Guardians INF prospect Will Wilson collected two more hits today (2-5 R HR RBI) for Triple-A Columbus, including his 4th HR of the season, a 399-foot bomb that came off the bat at 107.6 mph. 2025 season over 15 games: 19-55 11R 4(2B) 4HR 15RBI 9BB 1SB. AVG .345, OBP .446, SLG .636, OPS 1.082,” Guardians Prospective wrote on X.

With four homers and a 1.082 OPS, Wilson has looked rejuvenated in the Guardians’ system.
No disrespect to the Giants, but their player development system is not as good as Cleveland’s.
Perhaps the Guardians unlocked something in Wilson that will allow him to play to his potential.
They won’t know that for a few more weeks or months, at the very least.
He has been an below-average offensive player in the minors since 2022, yet he is carrying a phenomenal 185 wRC+.
The Giants gave up on him, but their loss could be the Guardians’ gain.
