The Cleveland Guardians bounced back and got a big win on the road on Tuesday night.
Logan Allen was at his best at Oriole Park, holding the Baltimore Orioles to just two hits in 5.2 shutout innings, leading his team to a 6-3 win.
Bo Naylor was also quite efficient at the bottom of the lineup, putting the ball in play to make the most of the scoring opportunities.
With that in mind, manager Stephen Vogt tipped his hat to his starting pitcher and catcher for combining to lead the team to a big win:
“They made [Logan Allen] throw a lot of pitches, but he was able to get out quick outs when he needed,” Vogt said. “He and Bo were awesome. The mix was outstanding tonight. They used every pitch a lot and he was in the zone with most of them.”
The Guardians’ bats woke up at Camden Yards.
They tied their season high with 11 hits, and with their ninth of the season, they inched closer to the AL Central Division leaders, the Detroit Tigers.
Allen proved to be a reliable hurler when he’s in command once again, walking just two hitters and striking out six to pick up his first win.
He got off to a strong start by retiring the first six batters he faced before Cedric Mullins got him with a lead-off walk in the third inning, but he got back on track by taking care of five of the next six players he faced.
The Guardians needed to start the road trip with positive momentum after dropping six of their first nine games on the road this season.
Now, Gavin Williams will be in charge of making it two in a row when they face the Orioles for the second game of the series today.
