The Cleveland Guardians have drafted, acquired, or developed more than their fair share of relief pitching contributors in the last few years.
They are among the best in the league when it comes to spotting and nurturing pitching talent.
They had the eye to acquire Emmanuel Clase via trade and develop hurlers like Cade Smith, Hunter Gaddis, Tim Herrin, Andrew Walters, Erik Sabrowski, Sam Hentges, Trevor Stephan, Joey Cantillo, Triston McKenzie, and many others.
Very soon, we could be talking about yet another name being added to this list, as hard-throwing righty Magnus Ellerts is developing nicely in Double-A.
“Cleveland #Guardians 24yr old RHP relief prospect Magnus Ellerts picked up the win today for Akron tossing two scoreless innings vs Altoona while striking out six consecutive batters. Line – 2.0(IP) 2H 0R 0ER 0BB 6SO (31 Pitches 22 Strikes). 2025 season: 4.1(IP) 2H 0R 0ER 1BB 7SO 0.00 ERA,” Guardians Prospective posted on X.

That brilliant two-inning performance happened on Sunday: the Akron RubberDucks were off on Monday.
Still, it definitely should be noted.
In the short clip, you can see how he brings the heat with his fastball and how he is not afraid to use his excellent breaking ball in any count.
Ellerts had already impressed in spring training and is now doing it in Double-A.
If he keeps this up, we will see him in Triple-A Columbus in no time.
In 4.1 innings, foes haven’t been able to inflict any damage against him and have mostly looked helpless.
There is a chance Ellerts becomes an option for the Guardians bullpen in the stretch run if he keeps developing like this.
