The Cleveland Guardians are always on the lookout for pitching depth, which is why they are always paying attention to transactions around the league.
They are also known for getting the best out of pitchers due to their excellent coaching and fantastic player development staff.
On Tuesday, they got their pitching version of a lottery ticket after striking a trade with the Seattle Mariners.
“The Guardians today acquired RHP Cody Bolton from the Seattle Mariners for cash considerations (optioned to AAA Columbus). Bolton, 26, has split his professional career between the Pittsburgh and Seattle orgs, appearing in 33-G at the ML level over the last two seasons (2023-24),” Guards Insider posted on X.

Southpaw John Means has been transferred to the 60-day Injured List to make room for the newcomer.
The Seattle Mariners designated Bolton for assignment last week because they needed the roster spot for Jesse Hahn.
The new Guardian had opened the season in Triple-A with the M’s, and that’s where he is ticketed in Cleveland.
Bolton has made 33 relief appearances in his career between the Pittsburgh Pirates and the Mariners, putting up a 5.40 ERA.
Perhaps the Guardians can unlock something with their savvy approach to pitching.
This is a depth move, though, and with several pitchers on their way back in the upcoming days and weeks, MLB innings might be hard to come by for Bolton.
Bolton is a cutter-sinker guy who complements that combo with a sweeper.
The changeup is his fourth-favorite pitch, and he throws a four-seamer from time to time.
Bolton will report to Triple-A Columbus and hope the big-league team needs him eventually.
