When you think about the Cleveland Guardians of 2022-24, you think about a pesky team with excellent pitching, good fundamentals, and aggressiveness on the basepaths.
Power didn’t always come in bunches, but the team played a particular brand of baseball that took it to two playoffs in a span of three years.
So far, the 2025 Guardians have been far from that kind of team.
Their pitching staff has allowed 45 runs entering Sunday, the sixth-most in MLB.
Perhaps more importantly, they are dead last in MLB with zero (0) stolen bases.
“The Guardians, who have ranked in the top five in MLB in stolen bases each of the past four seasons, do not have a stolen base so far in 2025,” Guardians of the Land posted on X.

The Guardians opened Sunday 0-for-4 in stolen base attempts this year.
It’s a shocking development for a team that was among the boldest on the basepaths.
It’s just one of several things that have led some people to believe they are going through a bit of an identity crisis.
The Guards did lose speedy players in the last few months: Andres Giménez stole 30 bags in each of the last two seasons, and Myles Straw was also traded.
Cleveland does have some players with a certain propensity to steal, like Steven Kwan, Brayan Rocchio, and, of course, Jose Ramirez.
They are yet to wreak havoc on the bases, though.
It’s still not the time to panic, not with just eight games on the books.
However, it’s certainly something to monitor in the upcoming days and weeks.
