The Cleveland Guardians edged the Seattle Mariners in their Spring Breakout showdown.
It was an exciting game that had a little bit of everything.
The Guardians’ win was mostly fueled by two players who are set to shape the future of the team for the next few years, alongside another group of talented prospects.
They are left-handed starting pitcher Parker Messick and outfielder Jaison Chourio.
Because of their contributions against the Mariners, Messick and Chourio received a cool distinction.
“Following last weekend’s Spring Breakout game, LHP Parker Messick and OF Jaison Chourio are part of the All-Spring Breakout Teams! Messick (3.0IP, 4H, 0R, 5SO) made first-team honors while Chourio (3-4, 2R) made the second team. Congratulations to these Guardians Minor Leaguers!” GuardsInsider wrote on X.

Messick was in complete control as the starting pitcher, blanking Seattle for three innings. He struck out five while allowing four hits.
Those who follow the Guardians farm system are used to this kind of outing by Messick.
The 24-year-old posted a 2.83 ERA in 133.2 innings last season in High-A and Double-A.
This season, he seems headed to Triple-A to see what he’s made of.
Chourio saw his season end prematurely with a wrist injury, but he put together an incredible 144 wRC+ in 98 games at Single-A.
He stole 44 bases and walked more than he struck out.
Cleveland will likely assign him to High-A, which is where he would have finished last year if it weren’t for his injury.
The two young stars now get a reward for their excellent Spring Breakout performances.
