Generally speaking, the most promising prospects in MLB are usually very young and boast what scouts call a ‘projectable frame.’
It means that these talent evaluators believe that the player in question still has more growth to do, or has the physical frame and body type that allows them to add muscle without losing too much athleticism or speed.
This is important for both position players (more muscle means more power) and pitchers (more velocity.)
In the specific case of Cleveland Guardians prospect Angel Genao, a series of developments he experienced in the offseason could potentially lead to a power breakout.
“Angel Genao not only added more muscle in the off-season but he actually grew taller! Looking forward to seeing what he can do this year following up his breakout 2024 campaign,” Guardians Prospective posted on X.

Genao, who hit 10 home runs in his breakout 2024 campaign (in 496 plate appearances with a 150 wRC+ between Single-A and High-A), might be beefing up for a run at 20 home runs.
If he can reach that total with his incredible contact abilities and keen eye at the plate, Genao could be unstoppable.
He is already a .300-type hitter who takes walks and doesn’t strike out.
He doesn’t really run much, but he accumulated 25 steals in 2024, and that’s a nice ceiling.
Adding ’20-homer hitter’ to his resume would catapult him up the prospect rankings inside the top 20, and could mean that he aces Double-A and Triple-A in no time.
Of course, we should all wait to see if he can translate the physical growth to the plate, but this is one of the best offseason and spring training developments for Cleveland.
