Cleveland Guardians leadoff hitter Steven Kwan is not really known for his power.
Make no mistake, he is an All-Star-caliber player with elite defense, baserunning, contact, and plate discipline skills.
Home runs are not really part of his game, though.
Still, that doesn’t mean he can’t run into one from time to time.
Kwan has the contact skills and barrel control to drive balls with authority every now and then, and that’s exactly what he did on Sunday.
During the Guardians’ second game of spring training, the three-time Gold Glover sent one to the stands, above the right field wall, for his first homer of exhibition play.

It was in the bottom of the third inning against Chase Silseth.
The blast gave Cleveland a 3-1 lead at the time.
If Kwan is already a star, imagine what his stat line and overall offensive output could look like with 15-20 homers per season.
In his first three seasons as a major leaguer, he hit six homers (2022), then five (2023), and then his power production spiked all the way to 14 round-trippers last year, in just 122 games.
Does Kwan have a 20-homer season up his sleeve?
If he hadn’t suffered that untimely injury last year, perhaps he could have approached that total.
We will never know, but he is still relatively young, athletic, and talented to make the thought of him hitting more homers plausible.
He was already a 4.1-fWAR player with ‘just’ 14 long balls in 2024.
It’s just spring training, but it wouldn’t hurt to closely monitor Kwan and his power output during these exhibition games.
We might be in for his best season yet as a Guardian.
