The Cleveland Guardians continue to have one of the best player development systems in the majors.
Their scouting department has also done a solid job over the past couple of years.
That’s why it’s not much of a surprise to see five of their prospects cracking Baseball America’s first Top 100 Prospects list ahead of the upcoming season:
2B Travis Bazzana (No. 24), CF Jaison Chourio (No. 32), SS Angel Genao (No. 37), OF Chase DeLauter (No. 48), and 1B Ralphy Velazquez (No. 91) all made the list.
Cleveland #Guardians come in with five players in @BaseballAmerica top 100 prospects for the 2025 season.
24. Travis Bazzana (2B)
32. Jaison Chourio (CF)
37. Angel Genao (SS)
48. Chase DeLauter (OF)
91. Ralphy Velazquez (1B)#ForTheLand— Guardians Prospective (@CleGuardPro) January 22, 2025
Bazzana’s addition is encouraging but not surprising.
He was the No. 1 pick in July, and he batted .238 with 24 hits, seven doubles, three HRs, 12 RBIs, and five stolen bases in 27 appearances with High-A Lake County Captains.
He later helped them win the Midwest League Championship by hitting .316 with six hits, one homer, one double, three RBIs, two steals, and a .961 OPS.
Chourio, on the other hand, was named the 2024 Carolina League MVP after excelling with the Single-A Lynchburg Hillcats.
He led the league in walks (86) and cracked the top five in runs (69), stolen bases (44), OPS (.813), and OBP (.414).
Genao was also a bright spot for both Single-A Lynchburg and High-A Lake County.
He made it to the All-MiLB Prospect Second Team and the Midwest League All-Star team after being the only minor league with a .330 batting average, 50 extra-base hits, and 25 stolen bases.
DeLauter spent a lot of time on the Injured list last season, which will continue to be a concern.
Even so, he still managed to log 37 hits, eight homers, ten doubles, 21 RBIs, and a .841 OPS and .261 BA in 39 games across the minors.
Last but not least, Velazquez logged a batting average of .241 with 87 hits, 11 home runs, 23 doubles, 61 RBIs, and a .732 OPS last season.
