It’s not a secret that the Cleveland Guardians have a rock-solid farm.
They not only are building an impressive collection of talent at the MLB level: they are also highly sustainable due to their incredibly talented minor leagues.
The Lake County Captains, their High-A affiliate, showed skill and ceiling as a team on their way to a cool recognition.
“The @LCCaptains are BA’s Minor League Team of the Year! Not only did they lead the MWL in runs scored, fewest runs allowed, walks AND on-base percentage … But they went on to win the Midwest League title. The @CleGuardians organization is on a roll,” Baseball America posted on X.

The Captains dominated the Midwest League like no other squad dominated a pro league this year in baseball.
They accumulated a 77-53 record, good for a .592 winning percentage.
They took home the Midwest League East First Half Division Championship and then went on to win the Midwest League Championship.
Some of the best prospects in the organization wore, at some point in 2024, the Captains’ uniform.
They were led by second base prospect and No. 1 overall pick Travis Bazzana, but Angel Genao, Ralphy Velazquez, C.J. Kayfus, Matt ‘Tugboat’ Wilkinson, Cooper Ingle and Parker Messick, among many others, participated in the 2024 campaign for the High-A champs.
This bit of data says everything you need to know about the 2024 Lake County Captains: “According to MiLB.com’s Ben Weinrib, the 2024 Captains were the first team to lead the Midwest League in both runs scored (632) and fewest runs allowed (507) during the regular season since the 2011 Dayton Dragons (then-Class A, Cincinnati Reds),” Logan Potosky wrote.
The 2024 Captains were a special team.
Now, most of that class will probably try their luck at Double-A.
