The Cleveland Guardians won the American League Central with a record of 92 wins and 69 losses in 2024.
After winning the division, the Guardians made a postseason run to the American League Championship Series before falling to the New York Yankees.
The Guardians have one of the best and most dominant closers in baseball in Emmanuel Clase.
Clase was asked if he has any intention of adding another pitch to his arsenal next season.
“No, If I try to add another pitch, I’m afraid I’ll mess up the ones I got,” Clase said.
Clase had arguably the best season of his career in 2024 as he appeared in 74 games and held a 0.61 ERA with 47 saves and 66 strikeouts in 74.1 innings pitched.
Although he was dominant for most of the regular season, Clase struggled a bit in the postseason.
In the American League Division Series against the Detroit Tigers, Clase had a 6.35 ERA in the four games he appeared in.
In the American League Championship Series against the Yankees, Clase had a 15.43 ERA in the three games he appeared in.
The Cy Young Award is usually won by a starting pitcher, but Clase had such a great season that he earned himself a spot as a finalist for the American League Cy Young Award.
After winning the AL Central in 2024, the Guardians will have to perform well next season if they want to repeat as division champs as three teams made the postseason from the division.
Clase and the Guardians will try to win their first World Series title since 1948 next year.
