A few days ago, it was announced that Cleveland Guardians second baseman Andrés Giménez and starting pitcher Tanner Bibee won the prestigious Fielding Bible award.
The Fielding Bible award is given to one player at each position who showed defensive prowess, excellence and consistency according to advanced stats and metrics.
Giménez excels with a glove on his hand according to traditional scouts, fans, the sabermetric community, and just about everyone who watches him play.
His offense might have peaked in 2022, but his defense is really something to behold.
MLB insider and Fielding Bible voter Daniel Alvarez-Montes praised Giménez for his obvious defensive gifts.
“Only one player won a Fielding Bible Award in 2023 and 2024. Guardians second baseman Andrés Giménez had another fantastic defensive season, as Award voter @DanielAlvarezEE explains,” SIS Baseball posted on X.

Alvarez-Montes stated that “the most valuable thing about Giménez’s defense is the security and tranquility it generates for the Guardians pitching staff”.
He is a true vacuum out there, making every routine play and completing other outs that no second baseman in MLB would.
Gimenez has it all: instincts, athleticism, quickness, arm strength and accuracy, and a high IQ.
He is actually a really good defensive shortstops who turned into an elite second baseman.
“He’s been so good, not only for the athletic and flashy plays, but also for his maturity and baseball IQ” the analyst explained.
Yes, improving his lousy offensive output is a priority for the Guardians, but his glove and his lucrative extension make Giménez a worthy play at the keystone.
