The Cleveland Guardians made it further than most people anticipated in 2024.
They reached the American League Championship Series and we’re virtually in every game of it, meaning that a few circumstances could have made that matchup closer.
They aren’t as far to the World Series as some people give them credit for given their 4-1 ALCS defeat.
In a chat with the media on Tuesday, Guardians president of baseball operations Chris Antonetti made it clear that he feels good about his roster, but acknowledged there is work to do.
“Chris Antonetti says the #Guardians have a lot to weigh this offseason. It’s a delicate balance when they consider how they’re going to aggressively give young players they drafted the chance to prove themselves, while trying to supplement the roster with proven Major League talent that can fill gaps and help them win a World Series,” play by play announcer Brendan Gulick posted on X with some of Antonetti’s remarks.

One thing is clear, though: Antonetti loves where his roster is talent-wise.
He said he feels good not only about the young players that contributed to the 2024 Guardians (Kyle Manzardo, Jhonkensy Noel, Daniel Schneemann, Cade Smith, Tim Herrin, Joey Cantillo, Brayan Rocchio, and many more), but also about those ‘on the cusp’ of doing it.
Chase DeLauter is a clear example of that second group.
In reality, the Guardians are brimming with talent.
They do need to bring in impact talent on specific positions, but the overall outlook of the franchise is encouraging, to say the least.
