The Cleveland Guardians were finally watching trade acquisition Alex Cobb turn a corner and deliver quality performances after securing his services from the San Francisco Giants ahead of the deadline.
His first start as a Guardian wasn’t particularly good, allowing five runs (four earned) on 4.2 innings on August 9.
Last week, he delivered better results in 5.2 frames, conceding a single run on three hits and two walks, with three strikeouts.
He will have to rest for at least a few days, though, as he has been placed on the 15-day injured list.
“We have some news on this Monday off day. Cobb has a fractured nail on his right hand,” GuardsInsider tweeted.

Ouch.
In theory, this is not a season-ending injury, or shouldn’t be at least.
However, it might take some time for Cobb to feel comfortable picking up a baseball and executing all grips in a game situation.
As a result, it’s not a given that he will be back immediately after the 15 days are up.
For now, the Guardians will have to cope with his absence in what’s already a short-handed rotation.
The team announced the call-up of pitcher Anthony Gose to take Cobb’s spot on the active roster.
To make room for Gose in the 40-man roster, the Guards sent reliever Sam Hentges to the 60-day injured list.
Cobb isn’t an ace, but he had shown in his last outing that he could be what the Guardians needed in the rotation: a steady innings-eater with enough effectiveness to keep the team in the game.
Unfortunately, he will be on the shelf for at least a couple of weeks now.
