The last week has been quite eventful for starting pitcher Xzavion Curry.
The Cleveland Guardians optioned him to Triple-A Columbus on Sunday.
Then, they designated him for assignment on Tuesday, hoping he would clear waivers and return to the organization.
That didn’t happen, though, and he is no longer with the Guardians.
The Miami Marlins claimed him via waivers, and Cleveland has lost a valuable depth option that could have come in handy now that Carlos Carrasco has been placed on the injured list.
One more thing: The Marlins claimed Xzavion Curry.

Cleveland’s decision to designate Curry for assignment a few days ago came as a bit of a surprise.
They needed a spot on the 40-man roster to add pitcher Anthony Gose, and Curry didn’t do himself any favors by posting a 5.84 ERA in 24.2 innings with the Guardians in 2024.
Curry doesn’t have too much upside, but given the state of the Guardians pitching staff, his presence on the roster could have been useful.
He is not that far removed from a solid 2023 in which he had a 4.07 ERA in a much larger sample: 95 innings.
He is best suited as a backend option, but Tanner Bibee is a bit banged up (even though he has already been announced as Sunday’s starter), Logan Allen and Triston McKenzie are currently in Triple-A, and Carrasco is now on the shelf.
The Guardians needed to bring in starting pitcher ahead of the deadline, but only secured the services of the injury-prone Alex Cobb.
Losing Curry might seem rather minor at the moment, but could prove to be costly if more injuries strike.
