The 2026 campaign was exciting for the Cleveland Guardians in many ways. However, a recurring problem got in the way again: their offense proved it wasn’t good enough when it mattered most, in Games 4, 5, and 6 of the American League Championship Series against the Tampa Bay Rays.
By wRC+, the unit ranked 22nd in the regular season among all 30 teams, so there’s definitely room for improvement there. Upgrades, of course, will be costly, whether in prospects or cash.
If they feel like investing in a major upgrade for the middle of their lineup, outfielder Randy Arozarena would be a perfect fit. We all know that’s a major ‘if’, but hey, it’s hard to argue against the idea of the postseason hero arriving in Cleveland from a strictly competitive, on-field standpoint.
“Preaching that the Cleveland Guardians need an offensive lift is a yearly tradition. Be that as it may, Arozarena would be a terrific fit in Believeland. Again, this was factually one of MLB’s worst offenses. The Guardians need a boost, and Arozarena is the best bat on the open market, a proven commodity, and his arrival would involve minimal defensive tweaks,” FOX Sports wrote.
Arozarena is coming off what’s probably his best year as a major leaguer. He posted a brilliant .281/.381/.484 line with 26 home runs, 113 runs scored, 79 RBI, 26 stolen bases, and a career-high 151 wRC+. His 5.5 fWAR was also the highest output of his career to this point.
Arozarena is already on the wrong side of 30, but remains in his prime at 31 years old. He probably won’t be cheap, so make sure you don’t count the Guardians as favorites, but in any case, we have seen some market surprises develop over the years, so don’t count Cleveland out just yet.
Having a perennial 20-20 threat with power and on-base skills would help take the Guardians’ offense to the next level. It’s certainly fun to imagine an outfield with Chase DeLauter, Arozarena, and potentially Jo Adell and Steven Kwan.
There will certainly be competition for Arozarena’s services in the open market, but if the Guardians pivot from their stingy ways, they have a chance to put together a special outfield.
