The Cleveland Guardians played their last game of the season on October 19, when they fell to the Tampa Bay Rays and were eliminated in the American League Championship Series. That was just two weeks ago.
MLB players often take a few weeks off before starting their offseason routine, but not Guardians starter Slade Cecconi. The big right-hander is already working out and getting ready for the 2027 campaign, which shows an admirable sense of commitment on his part.
“Cleveland Guardians RHP Slade Cecconi is already back putting in work at @CresseySP back home in Florida,” Guardians Prospective reported on Tuesday night.

Cecconi will enter the 2027 campaign with a chip on his shoulder after being removed from the rotation in August, in favor of trade acquisition Foster Griffin. He did make 21 starts for the Guardians, plus seven bullpen appearances, to reach 121 innings.
Cecconi finished the regular season with a mediocre 4.91 ERA and a 4.55 FIP, striking out 99 and walking 39. He entered the 2026 campaign having overhauled his repertoire, but he had similar results to those of last season.
After a rough first month and a respectable May, Cecconi appeared to be putting it all together in June, as he finished that month with a 1.88 ERA in 28.2 innings. The wheels fell off in July, though, when he posted a 7.94 ERA.
For stretches, Cecconi was a very competent starter for Cleveland. Over 10 starts from May 7 to June 27, the righty covered 54.2 frames and posted a 2.63 ERA. He was very important in keeping the Guardians afloat at a time when some of the main offensive stars were struggling. If he can find a way to replicate that form over a longer sample in 2027, he might earn and keep a rotation spot.
That’s why Cecconi is already back to work. When some of his fellow players and teammates are resting, he is starting to get ready for what’s coming. The Guardians still have cheap control over his career for the next four seasons, but he knows that the better results he has, the more he can earn in arbitration in the future.
