Cleveland Guardians ownership makes it clearer every year that they hate spending money, so even though this team fell just two games shy of reaching the World Series, the fans aren’t holding their breath for the necessary reinforcements to be brought in over the offseason. This team is just a couple of pieces away from getting over the hump, but in order to do that, the most likely route to get there is going to have to come from internal improvements.
Plenty of young Guardians pitchers took big steps forward in 2026, including Parker Messick, Gavin Williams, Joey Cantillo, Cade Smith, Daniel Espino, and more. All of them will be cemented into prominent roles on next year’s staff, but there is another young promising righty who is poised for a big winter.
Guardians Prospective shared a video of 23-year-old righty Yorman Gomez throwing a bullpen session on Saturday. In the video, he is seen dotting fastballs and breaking off some impressive breaking balls as he gets set to pitch in the Venezuelan Winter League in a few weeks.
“Cleveland #Guardians 23yr old RHP prospect Yorman Gomez throwing a recent bullpen session out at the organizations Goodyear Development Complex. Gomez is preparing to pitch in the Venezuelan Winter League around mid November for his club Maganellas,” Guardians Prospective said.

Gomez had a brutal 2026 and needs to get back on a good trajectory toward the major leagues. He posted a 6.46 ERA in 17 starts this past season with a ghastly 1.55 WHIP in 69.2 innings. Most of that work came in Triple-A, which was disappointing after his scintillating 2025 season where he went 12-2 with a 2.96 ERA in 121.1 innings.
It was a bizarre step back that was hopefully just a down year. He did spend two separate long stints on the injured list, so it’s possible he never felt like himself and this season was a wash.
He was on a great track towards reaching the majors prior to 2026, and we’ll see if he can get back on that track with a strong performance in winter ball.
