Ever since the Cleveland Guardians bowed out of the 2026 postseason earlier this week, and actually well before that point, manager Stephen Vogt has been linked to one particular managerial job: the Seattle Mariners’. He is from the West Coast and would be much closer to his family. From that perspective, it makes sense.
However, it’s also fair to say that Vogt has built a strong relationship with the Guardians organization. They gave him his first chance to manage in the majors in 2024, and he won the Manager of the Year Award in each of the two seasons before 2026.
Vogt has taken the Guardians to the playoffs in 2024, 2025, and 2026, with two of those campaigns yielding American League Championship Series appearances. During that time, he has developed a pristine reputation as a top young manager in the league.
Fans probably don’t like to see the rumors of Vogt being an option for the Mariners’ job, so the skipper has a golden chance to put all the speculation to rest on Thursday afternoon.
“Yes, we’ve all seemed to hear the same rumors and rumblings tying Guardians manager Stephen Vogt to the open managerial job in Seattle with the Mariners. The good news is, he himself can put that all to bed today, around 2:00 pm this afternoon when he sits down with the media,” analyst Nick Camino posted.

The Guardians’ clubhouse leader will have an encounter with the media at 2 pm ET, in which many topics will be discussed at length. You know that one of them, inevitably, will be his immediate future and that alleged opportunity to take Seattle’s job.
His response will tell fans how they need to feel about their manager’s commitment to the franchise. An emphatic “no” to Seattle would bring some peace of mind to a Guardians’ faithful that believes in the project being put together. However, an ambiguous response would raise even more concerns about the direction of the clubhouse.
Fans will be paying close attention to the conference and its outcome. Vogt, like every manager, is criticized sometimes for his on-field decisions, but he has proven to be an elite leader with just three years at the helm.
