Cleveland Guardians’ starting pitcher Carlos Carrasco struggled once again in last night’s 5-0 loss at the Toronto Blue Jays and dropped his record to 2-6 while ballooning his ERA to 5.80.
Carrasco settled in a bit after giving up three runs in the second inning, but it was ultimately too much to overcome as the offense was unable to get anything going with Jose Ramirez missing his first game via the paternity list, and manager Stephen Vogt shared his thoughts on Carrasco’s performance after the game.
Bally Sports Cleveland shared a clip from Vogt’s postgame comments, and the manager said “He stepped up for us and gave us five innings, but it wasn’t the sharpest he’s been.”

Vogt commended Carrasco for hanging in there and making it through five innings to help the bullpen out, but pointed out that Carrasco had trouble landing his offspeed pitches in the game and was overly reliant on his fastball because of it.
The Guardians bullpen has been overworked lately, as no Guardians starter has gone longer than 5.1 innings since June 7th.
Carrasco wasn’t sharp, but there’s nothing he could have done with zero runs of support as the Guardians lineup couldn’t get anyone across home plate despite corralling eight hits, though all were singles.
Carrasco has just one quality start this season and will be in danger of losing his spot in the rotation when Gavin Williams is ready to debut after his rehab stint.
Hopefully, the veteran can figure it out, because it has been a rough stretch for the 37-year-old so far.
