The Cleveland Guardians making the postseason has become a recurrent theme in recent years. For an organization that is consistently near the bottom of the league in total payroll, it’s an impressive achievement: they have played in October three straight years and in four of the last five.
Analyst Spencer German can’t help but be impressed by Cleveland’s incredible consistency through the years. They draft well, they make savvy trades, and they are excellent in the amateur free agent market, too. All these factors make them a sustainable powerhouse despite not really spending much in free agency.
German went on to say that he believes the Guardians might have a chance to do something more than just making the postseason this year.
“That is pretty remarkable when you think about it…however long this goes, I know Guardians fans are going to enjoy it. This field in the A.L. leaves a lot to be desired…I would not be surprised if they’re the team that comes out of it.”

The Guardians have a solid chance to win their third straight AL Central crown. If that happens, they will enter the playoffs in the best-of-five Division Series, avoiding some of the strongest teams in the American League, such as the Tampa Bay Rays, the New York Yankees, and the Boston Red Sox, until the AL Championship Series.
That could give them a slightly easier path than having to fight their way into the Division Series by risking elimination in the best-of-three Wild Card round. That’s why winning the division is so important.
German says he wouldn’t be surprised if the Guardians are the American League representative in the World Series and, to be frank, it might be more than just a pipe dream. The team likes its chances, and if they win the AL Central, they are one series win away from the AL Championship Series.
The offense seems to be surging at the right time; the pitching staff is doing its job, and having Parker Messick at the top of the rotation and Cade Smith closing out games is a luxury that other squads can’t enjoy. The pieces are in place for a deep run with a bit of luck.
