Angel Martinez has been must-watch television for Cleveland fans over the past few weeks, and Friday’s win over the Royals was just the latest example of why.
The switch-hitting outfielder reached base three times in the Guardians’ wild 12-9 win over Kansas City, going 2 for 5 with a double, four RBI and a walk. It was another loud performance in what has become an extended stretch of dominant hitting, and the numbers show just how hot Martinez has been recently.

Over his last 19 games, Martinez has collected 23 hits in 67 at-bats, scored 13 runs, added six doubles and a triple, hit six home runs, driven in 17 runs and drawn three walks, all while posting a .380 on-base percentage to go with that .343 average. That is not a hot week. That is nearly three weeks of a player performing like one of the best hitters in the sport.
The timing could not be better for Cleveland. Martinez is now hitting .260 with 18 home runs, 62 RBI and a .771 OPS on the season, numbers that have climbed significantly thanks to his recent tear. Against Kansas City specifically, he has been even more dangerous, hitting well over .400 with multiple home runs in that matchup alone this season. His four RBI performance Friday came during a ninth-inning rally that turned a tied game into a comfortable win.
Martinez’s surge has coincided with Cleveland’s push toward locking up the postseason and continuing to fight for the AL Central title. Having a switch hitter capable of doing damage from both sides of the plate, and doing it this consistently over nearly three weeks, gives manager Stephen Vogt a dangerous weapon in the middle of an order that has become far more complete since the trade deadline.
Hot streaks like this one do not last forever, but for now, Martinez shows no signs of cooling off. With the regular season winding down and October on the horizon, Cleveland will gladly take every bit of production he continues to provide.
